AVT and AI in Nursing

Welcome to the Future Nurse Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) Special Interest Group (SIG). As AI and ambient voice technology grow rapidly across the NHS and wider healthcare industry, this community brings together practitioners at every stage of the journey, from those already piloting and deploying solutions to those just beginning to explore the possibilities.

Exploring the potential of AI & AVT to transform care and support nursing practice.

The Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) Special Interest Group exists to ensure nurses are at the heart of shaping how AI and ambient voice technology is adopted across health and care. We bring together nurses, midwives, clinicians, researchers, digital leaders and industry partners to share knowledge, influence policy, explore emerging technologies and promote safe, evidence-based implementation.

Co-chaired by Hayley Grafton, Chief Nursing Information Officer at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, the group provides a collaborative community where members can exchange ideas, learn from one another and help shape the future of AVT. Whether you’re already using ambient voice technology or just beginning to explore its potential, there’s a place for you to contribute and make an impact.

Explore our AVT events designed to inform, inspire and connect our community.  Our events bring people together to share knowledge, spark ideas and drive innovation in nursing and healthcare.

Shaping the future of Ambient Voice Technology

This visual captures the key themes and priorities identified by nursing leaders during Future Nurse’s Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) workshop. It highlights the opportunities AVT presents to transform clinical practice, while reinforcing a simple but vital message: nurses must play a central role in shaping how this technology is designed, implemented and evaluated.

The discussion explored the practical applications of AVT across health and care, the foundations needed for successful adoption, and the leadership, evidence and collaboration required to ensure technology improves outcomes for both patients and healthcare professionals.

This work forms the foundation of the AVT Special Interest Group and will continue to inform our conversations, resources and future white paper as we work together to influence the future of AI-enabled nursing.
